Playwright and Marketing Entrepreneur

Deirdre has had dozens of one-act plays produced both nationally and internationally.

Deirdre Girard, who tells women’s stories, received her Playwriting MFA at Boston University. She has had dozens of award winning one-act plays produced both nationally and internationally; her full-length productions include The Christina Experiment at The Firehouse Center for the Arts and Reconsidering Hanna(h) at Boston Playwrights’ Theatre. Deirdre was named a 2012/13 and returning 2013/14 Playwriting Fellow at New Repertory Theater, and was selected for both the Company One Play Labs and Central Square Theater’s TWSS play development programs. She recently completed a commission from Peabody Essex Museum, won QC Theatre’s Susan Glaspell national playwriting award for her one-act play In the Buff, won the 2019 Boston Playwright’s Slam, was selected for the 2020 Barrington Stage’s 10x10 festival and 2020 and 2021 Boston Theatre Marathons. Deirdre is published by Applause Books, Smith & Kraus and Smith Scripts (UK). She is a playwriting instructor/mentor for several organizations including Gloucester Stage, Boston University’s Massachusetts Young Playwrights Project, and Northeastern University’s Silver Masque Theatre, as well as a member of the Boston Playwright’s Theatre/Boston University MFA Playwriting Program Advisory Council, and an editor for Stage Source’s New Play Alliance Newsletter.

Prior to working professionally as a Playwright, Deirdre had a successful career as a marketing entrepreneur. She was the co-founder of PreVision Marketing, an integrated creative, database and analytics marketing company, named as both an Inc. 500 and Software 500 firm. Her company was successfully sold to Valassis Communications, a billion dollar media giant, in 1997. Deirdre was a frequent columnist, speaker and leading strategist on retention marketing with a client base including Pfizer, Quaker Oats, CVS, Gap, ABC, Safeway, Simon Malls, Talbots, and Stop & Shop among others. In addition to working as a playwright, she currently uses her marketing skills to support various arts organizations.
